To be a working actor, ideally, you have more than one headshot so that you can send different looks for different jobs. You don’t want to send the same photograph when you’re auditioning for a Macy's or Nordstrom commercial than you would for a spot on Game of Thrones. But if you can only have one shot, a “legit” or “middle-of-the-road” shot is the way to go. Even if you have more than one shot, something that is more neutral is a great option to have as it can be submitted for many different types of roles.
As long as you have at least two shots that show different looks, you are fine. If you are gorgeous and an IVORY Girl or Guy and would be going up for soap-type roles, make sure your legit shot reflects that aspect. A great shot should have energy in the eyes and face, with a somewhat neutral mouth--not necessarily a big, toothy smile, but perhaps a slight smile. It should convey a look perhaps as if you have a little secret. Some of the examples below have a bigger smile, but it’s still a contrast compared to their other shots. Your headshot should show your personality to some degree. Not all these shots are about being “pretty”--not every actor will go up for the “pretty” roles! As far as clothing, you don’t want it to be too casual, but not too dressy, either. You should see a bit of a line of the body--not revealing too much skin, but showing your physique. |

I specialize in capturing the passions and personalities of the actors and actresses I photograph. If you are familiar with my work or have been referred by a creative director, client or friend, then you know I approach things in a very relaxed and up-beat way. My success comes from my ability to make people feel at ease, focusing on the natural assets of the individual. I'm more interested in conveying a personality than glamorizing an individual--it's all about what is-- then making that uniqueness stand out.
