Engagement Tips and Ideas:
What should I wear? We recommend 1 change of clothing/accessories for the 2-hour coverage and 2 outfit changes for the 3-hour coverage. A good idea is to choose lighter colors, darker colors and more formal attire for the evening pictures. Plan complementary color or styles with each other, avoid complex patterns as you will be photographed as a couple and overly ornamented clothing will detract from your images. Your engagement photographer will often ask you to sit on grass, a bench, or lean on a wall, so dress comfortably for those situations.
Should I bring props? We encourage all kinds of fun props for the photoshoot. It can be something meaningful (favorite soda, candy, book), handmade (save the date sign and banner, old photos together, travel scrapbook), and even something big (hobby, car, styled shoot props). Your furry ones: dog and/or cat – are also welcome for your engagement session!
Which location is the best? If you choose multiple locations or a large location, be sure to budget enough time for the travel. For example, New York engagement pictures may include High Line, Soho, even Brooklyn Bridge. You will have to consider the traffic and various transportation for getting to each location. Which one is more efficient? Taxi, subway, drive, or walk? You may also have to consider how crowded the place will be. Will there be many people in the background? We can help you narrow down the list and pick the best one(s).
Which day is the best? Typically, Monday through Thursday is better than Friday through Sunday. If your first choice is New York City, we highly recommend the weekdays.
For Connecticut locations, we will ideally be photographing around sunset time, it may be less crowded on weekend at certain parks. The park may be filled with residents who have just gotten off work, are exercising, or taking an evening walk.
Want something different? Not all engagement sessions have to be modeled as a casual date with different locations. Talk to us about your first meeting and interesting stories you have shared. We will plan with you and capture photos as if we were telling a story, much like scenes from movie: simple love story, a suspense, a cute comedy, or even a themed storyline would be amazing! We also offer a special storyboard layout album made for those sessions.
What happened if it rains? We can reschedule and work with you to find the next possible date.
Besides New York City and Connecticut our photographers love and are available to travel throughout New England and beyond if necessary! The ideas and locations are endless, just send us an email and we will be happy to discuss the details with you.
