Headshots for musicians are an important promotional tool. They create an instant impression of you as a working musician.  A headshot should communicate that the artist is pleasant, fun and professional. Having a successful headshot will leave a strong impression with your audience, employer, or client.

If you care about getting press coverage—and, well, gigs—you should care about having a great photo headshot.

Concert presenters absolutely expect you to have your headshot on hand. The standard headshot is an 8X10 glossy or matte, black and white or color picture. Although it is called a headshot, instrumentalists need to include more than their head of course, the Instrument should be included in the image too! For vocalists headshots are a necessity for most auditions and competitions.

Choosing a Photographer

Ask others who they have used including friends, teachers, and advisors. Ask to see their headshots and when you find one you like get the photographer's name and information.

I appreciate and enjoy a very down-to-earth approach to people and photography. Rather than posing I merely observe how one carries him or herself and focus on the natural assets of the individual. I'm more interested in conveying a personality than glamorizing an individual--it's all about what is--and then highlighting that uniqueness to stand out.
