It all begins with resolution

It's critical to repair images we scan by hand to remove the effects of age; however, it's also imperative that we start with a scanned image that shows detail and allows enlargements - in other words - an image with enough resolution.


RESOLUTION More pixels - Smoother look
The term Resolution is typically used to describe TWO things about a digital image:

1. The CANVAS SIZE: The total number of "Dots" or "Pixels" that the total area of the image takes
2. The OUTPUT RESOLUTION: How tightly packed together the "Pixels" are programmed to appear when finally printed (e.g. pixel density)
   This is expressed as "Dots Per Inch" or DPI. It can also be described as PPI (Pixels per inch) or PPC (Pixels per Centimeter)

Every image we receive undergoes some correction to remedy the effects of time. Photos that have been framed on display are particularly subject to fading, and even those hidden away in photo albums are subject to color shifts (unless stored in subzero conditions), both from time and from possible reaction to the photo album itself. For every image we receive, we will manually perform:

• Re-orientation
• Cropping
• Scratch and dust removal
• Color correction
• Red-eye removal

In short, for our standard level of service, a technician will spend time addressing flaws, addressing all of the problems above, and then some. In our experience scanning millions of photos, this produces outstanding quality almost all of the time, for a minimal fee per image. (Some photos may be so damaged they require our restoration service, but that's relatively rare).
